Soprano
American soprano Jennifer Harris has emerged as one of the most exciting
dramatic sopranos singing a repertoire ranging from Lady Macbeth and
Turandot to the heroines of Strauss and Wagner. Upcoming engagements
include Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera for Philadelphia’s Center City
Opera Theater, Clothilde in Norma for he Chautauqua Opera and a concert of Wagner and Strauss for the Artist
Series of Sarasota. Most recently, Ms. Harris made a last minute,
critically acclaimed début as Puccini's Tosca with Knoxville Opera. She
created the part of The Whore in the premiere of Lowell Liebermann's
Picture of Dorian Gray and covered the title role in Tosca with
Philadelphia's Center City Opera Theater. She recently received the top
scholarship from the prestigious Arleen Auger Memorial Fund and was a
finalist 2008 for the Bel Canto Scholarship Foundation
Ms. Harris appeared with the Miami Lyric Opera where she sang in two
gala concerts, performing arias and duets from Otello, Un ballo in
maschera, La Forza del Destino, and Suor Angelica. She sang Donna Elvira
in Don Giovanni with the Seagle Music Colony where her performance was
deemed "remarkable" by music critics. Jennifer Harris received her
Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Voice Performance from the University
of Michigan. While attending UM, she appeared as Magda in Menotti's The
Consul, as The Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, as Mimì in La Bohème, and
in the title role of Maria Golovin. She also sang the Countess in Le
Nozze di Figaro with the Arbor Opera Theater, and presented several
recitals under the auspices of Mr. Katz's studio, singing diverse song
literature from Schoenberg, Strauss, Heggie, and many others.
She has performed numerous recital programs in the United States and
several times in concert with Florida's Venice Symphony.

PRESS ACCLAIM:
As Magda in The Consul:
“Harris, a fine singer, gained even more confidence as the show went on,
building through emotional scenes at the consulate where she is faced
with ever-increasing impersonality, finally exploding with emotion
during the play's last climactic moment."

As Flora Tosca in Tosca:
“Fortunately, Floria Tosca in this production suffers no such
indignities. In fact, soprano Jennifer Harris, who hired on as the
understudy, only to be pushed into her first starring role when Rosemary
Musoleno became too ill to sing, deserved more of the roars at the
curtain calls.
If for no other reason, you shouldn't miss Harris' marvelous voice,
which she used to full effect in trying circumstances. For what her
Tosca is lacking in the hell-hath-no-fury like the jealousies and temper
tantrums of a celebrated opera singer, or the seductiveness, or the
take-charge stage presence, Harris made up for with glorious singing.”
