brought Suzanna
Guzmán to international attention for her critically acclaimed
portrayal of the
Duchess of Alba in the European premiere of Menotti's Goya. A recipient of awards and honors, Ms. Guzmán was a Metropolitan Opera Finalist and won the San Francisco Opera and the Center for Contemporary Opera Competitions. In 1995 she was honored by NBC for her contributions as a role model to the Latino community in a profile, entitled ‘Suzanna Guzmán, Outstanding Latina’, won the Los Angeles Music Center’s Viva Award for outstanding classical musician and the first Placido Domingo Award from the Los Angeles Music Center. Equally adept in Musical Theatre, she has performed nationally in productions of The King and I opposite Yul Brenner, as well as Showboat, Carousel and West Side Story, most recently appearing in the critically acclaimed film Twilight of the Golds. She can also be heard on the premiere recordings of Menotti’s Goya, Catan’s Florencia en al Amazones and the 2006 Grammy-nominated Chavez Chamber Music with the Southwest Chamber Music/Tambuco.
